DEVIANTART INTERVIEW: OKAMIX-2

Following last week's interview with deviantARTist Moonywolf, SHARP OBJEX chats with Lithuania-based artist, Okamix-2.

You can visit her deviantART page here

SHARP OBJEX: Hi okamix-2, thanks for joining us. First off, could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Okamix-2: Of course!  My name is Indre, I‘m a student living in Lithuania. I‘m a nice person, I like to try new things and I love to make new friends. Sometimes I can be really lazy and bossy, but my friends still love me. My art is light, cheerful and soft - I always try to find something beautiful in everything.

SO: Where did you come up with the username, okamix-2? You must really love the video game, Okami!

O: Yes I love the game and I just love the name, it‘s short and easy to remember and almost everyone knows what it means.  For those who don‘t, it literally means ‘‘great god" or if written differently it means ‘‘wolf". Even if they don‘t know the meaning at least they know the game. The x-2 is from another one of my favorite games, Final Fantasy X-2. I just added them together and got myself a name.

SO: Who/what has inspired you the most in your artwork?

O: Mostly music, it has inspired me so many times. Whenever I do some sort of work I always listen to music, it helps me to concentrate and create something amazing. Most of my works show some kind of a feeling whether it‘s love, happiness or sadness. I love to show emotions in my works, they inspire me.

SO: Are there any specific pieces of artwork that have inspired you?

O: Yeah there are many, most of them from deviantart. It would be hard to name them all because there are a lot. They inspire me to make incredible and amazing pieces.

SO: Could you name a few of your favourite deviantARTists?

O: Kidchan, Toonikun, Meisan: These artist are just incredible and I am always amazed at their works. Because of them I want to push myself harder and improve more and more.

SO: What were some of your earliest memories as an artist?

O: When I was very young I used to attend an art class and I remember that, a couple of times, my works were displayed.  I was 7 or 8 years old, but I was so proud of myself and my works. You could even say that that was when I became a true artist.

SO: What does art mean to you and how has it affected you? Do you feel that you have changed as an artist since the past years?

O: Art means a lot to me, it has a huge place in my life. It helps me to not only express myself, but it shows my talent and hard work. And yes, I have changed as an artist. When I look at my old works I can see that now I‘m a completely different artist. My works are more detailed, they all have some sort of a meaning and they show my true style.

SO: Are there any specific techniques you enjoy using in your artwork?

O: I have tried a lot of different techniques in order to find my true style, it took me a couple years. At the moment I am very comfortable in using only simple pencils in my works and if I feel that the artwork needs something special I add some textures with the computer.

SO: Do you have any projects you are currently working on?

O: I‘m always working on something, there isn‘t a day that I don‘t draw. It can be a simple sketch or a really difficult artwork. I usually have a pencil in my hand. In my sketch book, there are many unfinished works, so yes, I have a couple of projects and a lot of work.

SO: Is there any particular work you've done that stands out amongst the rest? If so, what is its significance?

O: That would be “Falling apart" (topmost piece), this is my favorite work. When I finished this one I understood that this was how I want to draw and this was how I wanted my artwork to look. Its significance is huge because it marks the beginning of my new style and my way of expressing myself as an artist.

SO: In your artwork, where do you feel you would like to improve?

O: There is always room to improve and because of this I want to improve in everything. I can see that I have changed and that my works are getting better, but I want more and that‘s way I always try to improve my skills.

SO: How does it feel to know that people are inspired by your work?

O: It‘s pretty awesome.  I can‘t even describe it in words.  The feeling that my work inspires someone is incredible and just wonderful.  It just shows that I am a real artist and it just makes me so damn happy.

SO: What are your future goals as an artist? What are your career goals?

O: I don‘t know what the future brings and I usually try not to worry about it, but I know that art will always be with me. Of course, as an artist, I want to improve and be recognized by more people. As for career, well it is more related with science. I like to study and my favorite subject is biology. I‘m certain that I will always do what I love. Art will always be in my life.

SO: What are some of your favourite pastimes?

O: Besides drawing I like to read, play video games, meet up with friends and if I‘m really lazy (which is often) just lay in my bed and watch tv.

SO: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

O: If I could, I would travel all over the world.  Most off all I would like to go to Japan because I‘m just in love with the country and it‘s culture!

SO: Are there any particular quotes you enjoy or are inspired by?

O: Live your life how you want it, not how others tell you. It reminds me to always be myself and do what I really want, no matter what.
