Ranked among the most prestigious international film festivals in the world, Toronto International Film Festival offers film lovers, filmmakers, industry professionals and media a chance to experience the best in new cinema from established masters and new talent. Founded in 1976, TIFF has grown to become a vital component of Hollywood's marketing machine.
Although the Festival has begun to give more attention to mainstream Hollywood films, it still maintains its independent roots. It features retrospectives of national cinemas and individual directors, highlights of Canadian cinema, and a variety of African, South American, and Asian films.
TIFF 09 will be held from Thursday September 10 2009 to the 19th and, while holding its theatrical screenings, TIFF will also take the festival experience beyond cinema. Several free programmes will take place during the festival and will include YDS (Yonge-Dundas Square programmes), the Zombie Walk, TIFF Shhh! (silent films accompanied by live music), concerts, ballet presentations and much more. These events will no doubt add to this year's festival.
"From the efficiency and dedication of the Festival’s staff and volunteers to its vast contribution to the culture and economy of the City of Toronto, the Toronto International Film Festival has earned its long-standing reputation as a leader in the international film community." (TIFF)
