FILM REVIEW: DRAG ME TO HELL

You’d have to be pretty misguided, for lack of a better word, to think that Sam Raimi’s profitable Spiderman series was his best move yet – let’s not even mention the latest in the series, Spiderman 3. While the Spiderman films have garnered a lot of attention and have become this decade’s biggest blockbusters, it’s hard to imagine that these so-called ‘epitomes of cool’ are what Raimi has been working for all his life. I mean, where’s the fun in working with a bunch of famous actors who have bigger and better things to do? – I’m looking at you Tobey Maguire.

TORONTO AFTER DARK 2009: GRACE

Grace was one of those films I had been wanting to see for months. The premise grabbed and stunned me, perhaps rattled me a few times till I was numb to the idea of a cannibalistic baby. Being Paul Solet's first feature length film, I was determined to see it, one way or another. So, when I had the opportunity to at Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2009, I had to take that chance.

TORONTO AFTER DARK 2009: NEXT FLOOR

Although Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2009 has come and gone, there's still plenty of room to speculate the many films that had mesmerized us, disappointed us or even shocked us. Having attended the Closing Night Gala, I had a chance to experience a film that I'd never heard of, yet quickly became astonished by. While I had been pining for Grace that entire week (or rather, months) the fact that I enjoyed the preceding short film more still surprises me. Juxtaposing formality and absurdity, "Next Floor" is a rare experience not worth missing.

INTERVIEW: SCRIPT & SCREENWRITER, DIRK EICHHORST

In his 20-year career, Dirk Eichhorst has earned a living as a writer, director, production manager, and editor for documentary, promotional, educational, and narrative videos. He has developed original material into several scripts, both commissioned and on spec. In 2006, Dirk earned an Accolade Award for the fitness series, ‘Body Balancing by Tim Michaels’.
