PORTSMOUTH FILM FESTIVAL: SEAVIEW

A man stares past the camera. His eyes light up in such a way that you know he's seeing the buildings surrounding him for what they once were. He reminisces of a time where "knobbly knee" competitions were the highlight of the day, and families visited for breaks full of rest and relaxation. For the Mosney centre, once a Butlins resort on the Irish coast, now has a very different occupation as a centre for asylum seekers.

FILM REVIEW: GHOST STORY

In a place where dolls lurk demonically, and doctors loom menacingly, you will find the unusual and well crafted film Ghost Story. A feature by the creator of much loved Christopher Lee classic I, Monster, Stephen Weeks brings us a delight in the old school style chiller category. A massive fan of independent British horror, I found that this relatively low budget production, with its rather epic cast, was indeed rather spiffing.

SHORT FILM REVIEW: CANNIBAL FLESH RIOT!

A short film produced for around $6,000, "Cannibal Flesh Riot!" is a visually dynamic and original film that, in general, impressed me. Running for around thirty odd minutes, its cinematography is imaginative, and clearly took a lot of careful consideration. Employing the use of stop motion animation to truly amazing effect during a sequence in the film, it's something Ed Wood could only dream about.

DIRECTOR INTERVIEW: JAKE WEST

British director, Jake West, saw his fourth feature Doghouse released in cinemas everywhere earlier this year. A veritable horror film buff in his own right, Jake is known for his great visual style and incorporation of sharp, funny dialogue. Who else but this exciting movie-making talent, would think to put a deadly combine harvester rampage to a soundtrack of The Wurzels?
