FILM REVIEW: FRONTIER(S)

Frontier(s) is Xavier Gens' first attempt at a feature length film and is done in the same vein as other French cult horror films like High Tension (2003), Martyrs (2008) and Inside (2007). The film takes place in a not so distant future where France has just elected a fascist government into power, and as a result several riots break out both protesting and celebrating the victory. Several criminals use these riots as cover for robbing and looting the city.

TIFF 2009: VENGEANCE

The film follows Costello (Johnny Hallyday), a lonely father who has just lost his stepson and two grandchildren from a gangland hit - his daughter is badly hurt in the attack. Upon arriving in Hong Kong he immediately goes to work in discovering who is responsible for his family’s deaths - first by learning what the police had already uncovered about the attack and then questioning his daughter about the people that attacked her. This is done in a manner that is vaguely reminiscent to Diving Bell and the Butterfly, where they communicated silently by pointing at words on a newspaper.

TIFF 2009: DAYBREAKERS

What if a plague surfaces that causes individuals to become vampires? Would the world end? Would there be anarchy in the streets? Or would it simply be business as usual until night fell? Forthe film Daybreakers the latter seems most appropriate. However there is one problem, of the world’s population only 4% are humans and as a result the amount of human blood available to the vampire community is drastically low - to the point that there will not be enough to last the rest of the month. The side effect of a vampire not drinking blood on a regular basis causes them to mutate into a feral bat-like creature referred to as Subsiders.

FILM REVIEW: TIMECRIMES

Where do I start?

This is a relevant question for reviewing this film.

I think we all are a little curious about time travel.

How far back would you go?

What would you change?

Who would be affected?
